I like animals. I decided to explore some artsy/creative techniques in Adobe Illustrator to make a low polygonal-style illustration. My first attempt took me about 2 hours to make, manually. I know a few graphic designers mates who can spend upwards of 18 hours on a picture (and make mind-blowing graphics)… but realistically I ain’t got time for that!

After my first go I decided I needed to automate the process. I used a mesh calculator to automatically generate polygons around a photo’s main features, and simplified the colour filling, allowing me to generate several artworks in about 30 minutes.  I’ve shown some of my favourites below but check out the full results here: https://www.behance.net/gallery/26988859/Polygonal-Animals. There are a few kinks to work out with the mesh calculation, especially around objects like the eyes, but that’s something I can work on in the future!

Pastel colours were used in the background as the palette was the hottest fad at the time (material design was the trend). Check out the rest of the animals here: https://www.behance.net/gallery/26988859/Polygonal-Animals.
